John R. Warren, DVM, DACVO
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Warren is a board certified specialist in veterinary ophthalmology and the founder of Veterinary Eye Institute in Plano, Texas.
He received his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University and his Veterinary degree from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He did his residency at Animal Ophthalmology Clinic in Dallas.
Dr. Warren practiced general small animal medicine and surgery in Las Vegas, Nevada prior to pursuing his specialty in ophthalmology. He practiced relief veterinary medicine in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex during his ophthalmology residency. After his time in Dallas, he became an associate veterinary ophthalmologist at MedVet Medical and Cancer Centers for Pets in Cincinnati, Ohio prior to starting Veterinary Eye Institute.
Dr. Warren has a particular interest in cataract and intraocular surgery. He continues to advance veterinary ophthalmology in Collin County and the DFW metroplex by performing small incision cataract surgery with foldable intraocular lens placement using the latest technology developed not only for pet, but human, cataract surgery. Additionally, he enjoys corneal and eyelid reconstructive surgery for conditions such as entropion and corneal ulceration.
Dr. Warren has presented research multiple times at annual meetings of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. His research, "The effects of oxidative stress on telomerase activity and other stress-related proteins in lens epithelial cells" was published in Experimental Eye Research.
Kenneth E. Pierce, Jr., DVM, MS, DACVO
Speaker Bio:
In 2001 he received his Bachelor of Science from Tuskegee University in Animal Science/Pre-Vet Medicine. He then received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University's School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. In 2006 Dr. Pierce completed a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery internship at the University of Tennessee's College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2007 Dr. Pierce traveled to southern California to complete a specialty ophthalmology internship with Eye Care for Animals and B. Braun, Inc. He then completed a four year Comparative Ophthalmology residency at Michigan State University and Masters degree in 2011. Dr. Pierce became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in August 2011. Upon becoming certified in Veterinary Ophthalmology, Dr. Pierce was an Assistant Professor of Comparative Ophthalmology at Louisiana State University's School of Veterinary Medicine from 2011 to 2013, and as associate at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Trenton Falls, NJ from 2013 to 2017.
Dr. Pierce's interests are in heritable retinal diseases of dogs. His Master's degree research, "Sildinifil Reversibility Suppresses Rod-Medicated ERG Responses in Dogs Heterzygous for PDE6A Mutation" was awarded the 2009 ACVO Best Research Paper Award. He is also interested in glaucoma and exotic animals.
Being new to the area Dr. Pierce enjoys exploring the DFW metroplex.
Crystal D. Eng, DVM, Ophthalmology Resident
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Eng was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She grew up wanting to practice zoological and exotic animal medicine.
In 2006 she graduated from Texas A&M University with her B.S. in Biomedical Science and Animal Science and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. Dr. Eng originally practiced mixed animal medicine and surgery before transitioning to small animal emergency for 3 years prior to pursuing her specialty in veterinary ophthalmology.
Dr. Eng has completed her ophthalmology internship and is currently in her first year of ophthalmology residency with Veterinary Eye Institute.
In her free time, Dr. Eng enjoys kite surfing in Hawaii, riding elephants, and visiting Disney World.
