Fiona McCord, DVM
Dr. McCord is a veterinarian who has practiced in the Dallas area for over 25 years. In 2014 she launched her own company, Compassionate Care Pet Services (CCPS) to help fill what she saw as a gap in the care available for pets and their families during the final stages of a pet’s life. Through referrals from previous clients, veterinarians, specialists and the web, CCPS provides comprehensive, individualized care to pets and their people during the last stage of pet’s life, and the grief that follows.
Dr McCord has a veterinary degree, a law degree, and Masters in Veterinary Cardiovascular Physiology. She is also certified in Pet Loss Counseling by APLB, Pet Loss and Grief Companioning, and is enrolled the inaugural class for certification in Animal Hospice and Palliative Care . She is a member of IAAHPC, AVMA, CCVMA, APLB, and AH-ABV. But When asked about the educational background she will tell you that the degrees may sound impressive - but the best teacher has been her life experience, and the hundreds of clients with whom she has shared the last moments of a beloved pet’s life.
She will talk to us about End of Life Care and the services that are available - End-of Life Planning, Quality of Life assessment, Palliate Care, Hospice, In-Home Euthanasia, and Support Group Meetings.
Coleen Ellis
In 2004, the death of her dog, Mico, guided Coleen Ellis to start Pet Angel Memorial Center, Inc.®, the nation’s first stand-alone pet funeral home. In 2009, due to demand, Coleen founded Two Hearts Pet Loss Center, to guide people who wish to provide meaningful pet death care services in their communities, as well to be an educational resource in the pet grief discipline. She has a certificate in Death and Grief Studies Specializing in Pet Loss Companioning as well as being Certified in Thanatology and a Certified Pet Loss Professional. In the fall of 2011, Coleen released her first book Pet Parents: A Journey Through Unconditional Love and Grief. By 2014, she had joined business partner, Nick Padlo, in creating a national brand of pet memorial centers, The Pet Loss Center.
She is currently the co-chair of the Pet Loss Professionals Alliance and past president of the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care. She shares her home in Southlake, TX, with her husband, Chris Burke, and their four four-legged children, Ellie Mae, Crisco, Harry and Rudy.
